Hardware Store
Lugg’s Hardware Store prided itself on selling everything you could possibly need, and if they didn’t have a product in stock they would try their best to source it for you. Some customers would bring their own containers and use the brass taps in store to fill them with paraffin and oil as needed. Many goods bought would be put on ‘the slate’ until pay day.
FUN FACT - In Victorian times, women were not allowed to drink in pubs, so many mothers and wives would have bought alcohol at hardware stores instead.
