Blacksmith
The local Victorian Blacksmith would’ve been able to hammer and beat metal into anything from a farmyard gate to horseshoe or agricultural implements. He would also repair pots, pans and farmer’s tools. He would often have an assistant in charge of the bellows; raising the temperature of the furnace so the blacksmith could warm the metal until it was red-hot and mouldable. A barrel of water was always on hand for the tempering of metal before it was re-heated and the process would start again.
